The Dragon (John's green Volkswagen Passat) took the quartet 600 kilometers south, down to Anders family's summerhouse situated a stones throw from the beach. During a few days of tranquility we took long walks along the shore as well as nightly bicycle rides through narrow paths in the woods. We enjoyed food and wine, and of course we talked about and read books... But the one episode of this Patos meeting that will forever be remembered is when we borrowed the game "Så kan det låta" from a friendly neighbour (as we had forgotten to bring any game). In the name of diversity the teams consisted of Anders and Ola versus John and Krister, and when it was time for Krister to pick a card with a tune on and then hum it for John to guess what tune it was, the barely audible sound was "hihi hi hii". Within a nanosecond John said "Mamma Mia", and all four of us guffawed to the brink of suffocation...
Book 5 - "The Third Policeman" by Flann O'Brien (1967)
Anders X - For some reason Anders has not read the book, at least not all of it, and of course this earns him a broad variety of not so flattering epithets from his fellow bookmates. It is decided that when a member of Patos fails to read through a book he is meant to read he is to supply the others with an exquisite dinner of his own choosing...
John 4 - Refreshing surrealism and sheer accurate details.
Ola 3 - The somewhat stilty narrative hinders the many ideas from blossoming.
Krister 3 - A hell of a drill but a very good ending.
Average rating 3,33
Book 6 - "Cloud Atlas" by David Mitchell (2003)
Anders 3 - The message about how men are supposed to live is lost between negro slave and future slave.
John 2 - Neither good nor bad, but some bad...
Ola 3 - A potential masterpiece where unfortunately both message and context is lost between the lines.
Krister 2 - David went in over his head.
Average rating 2,5
Book 7 - "Bödeln" (The Executioner) by Per Lagerkvist (1933)
Anders X - Another unread?!
John 2 - No comment.
Ola 3 - A concluding soliloquy to meet the need.
Krister 3 - The threads you can follow in Lagerkvists books, and the atmosphere described tells us something about the time it was written.
Average rating 2,66
