Patos VII - 061027 - Vejbystrand

Back to Vejbystrand. There is three of us. Emptiness. Not a single photo was taken. We think.

Book 12 - "Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World" by Haruki Murakami (1985)
Anders 5 - An epic and dreamlike tale with great characters and well measured technological allusions (inklings, calcutecs et cetera) plus a parallel story that is on the verge of derailing but never does (the professor in the tower). This may very well be a much greater book about love than Houellebecq's "The Elementary Particles/Atomised". An eternal one. Many cool references to russian literature and sweet music like Bob Dylan et cetera. A strong fiver. Looking forward to "Kafka on the Shore".
Ola 5 - If the epithet "A Fairytale for adults" could only be attributed to one book I would pick this one. Youthful and earnest. 2-in-1.
Krister 5 - Great anguish, with a lot of truths.
Average rating 5

Book 13 - "The Elementary Particles/Atomised" by Michel Houllebecq (1999)
Anders 2 - The first half reminds me of "The catcher in the Rye" - but better - with its focus on one of the main character's sexual frustration. The second half = cruelly miserable. Not many points for any of the characters and the question is if anyone can enjoy these broodings. But the end saves it with feministic sci-fi undertones. Reread the first and the last pages. Hmm... hard to rate, wont be higher than a 2 due to the fact that any potential recognition of self would be damn tough. To be read in a gooood fucking mood, only!
Ola 2 - An easy read but a stolid book about two principally different persons midlife crisis.
Krister 1 - The only thing that was good with this cockfucking pussybook was the chick on the cover.
Average rating 1,66

Book 14 - "Gösta Berlings Saga" (The story of Gösta Berling) by Selma Lagerlöf (1891)
Anders 4 - "Short Cuts" get a life. 37 implausible stories about GB woven together when the deal with the devil himself surface. The 1891 swedish version of "The Lord of the Rings", written by the Major's wife herself. Language and feeling conveyed to the utmost, but demands a fair bit from the reader, well worth the effort though. Värmland in the 1800s kicks butt. Nice cover.
Ola 3 - A bunch of short stories, predominantly with glimmering linguistic usage, stacked on each other to create the saga of Gösta - a saga that unfortunately fails to suck the reader into it for real.
Krister 4 - A clever yarn with awesome use of language.
Average rating 3,66
